Artist Statement | Edna Sadeh | Painter
As a plastic artist, my journey began with a focus on human sculpture. However, in recent years, the heart of my practice has shifted toward painting on paper, canvas, and wood panels, utilizing oil and acrylic paints. I deliberately choose to paint a hinted human abstract, driven by a deep desire for the viewer to dive into the work and experience a sense of personal immersion.
I strive for a minimalism that is not an absence, but rather a conscious choice to dwell in the "in-between space." This space holds a charged memory without defined details, thereby inviting the viewer to fill in the gaps through their own internal world.
My color palette tends to be soft and monochromatic, yet I weave in touches of rich, bold, and vibrant color through subtle hints. The use of transparencies adds a dimension of mystery and depth that goes beyond the visible. My paintings are characterized by minimalist details that serve a need for precision, breath, and resonance.
The abstract imagery across my body of work stems directly from my inner world and is deeply connected to my practice in the field of mental health and my work with post-traumatic patients. I paint the human portrait through internal listening and intuitive connection, using it as a map of emotion and consciousness.
Recently, I have been exploring the power of printmaking, a technique that captivates me and enriches my range of expression. I am in a constant search for precision in expressing the soul; for me, minimalism is the key that unlocks the doors of personal interpretation for the viewer.
